Teakwood ball point pen

$35.00

This handcrafted writing instrument was made using dark brown teakwood salvaged years ago from the wooden decks of USS South Dakota (BB-57).

Teakwood ballpoint pen is enclosed in a plastic box.

Certificate of Authenticity will accompany the pen.

Handcrafted by Dale Hill, LCDR, USNR (ret), who says, “During the cutting, drilling, and lathe turning of this teakwood, while making this pen, I noted the distinct odors of salt water, fuel, and smoke – common smells encountered onboard Naval Ships and at Naval Stations.”

Description

Teakwood ballpoint pen is made from BB-57 wooden decking and engraved on one side with “USS South Dakota” and on the other with “BB-57.”

Pen contains black ink and uses Cross refills.

Defects in the wood (deep scratches, breaks, holes) were repaired with sawdust saved during the sawing and drilling, so some pens may show areas of darker repaired wood. Due to salt water, fuel, and smoke exposure, the polyurethane finish did not adhere as well to some areas of the teakwood. This may be noticeable on some pens.
